Under the shadow of systematic oppression and occupation by the Iranian regime, the land of Kurdistan is burning day by day in the flames of violence, repression, and the destruction of its national identity. The Iranian occupying regime is not only bent on denying the existence of the Kurdish nation, but through deliberate arson and environmental destruction, it targets the very essence of human and ecological life in this land.
The latest example of this crime is the widespread fire in the highlands of Abidar in Sine (Sanandaj), which tragically led to the martyrdom of one of the most devoted sons of our nation, environmental activist Hamid Moradi, and the severe injury of six other defenders of Kurdistan’s nature: Mohsen Hosseinpanahi, Khabat Amini, Mostafa Hojabri, Keyvan Mansouri, Arias Salimi, and Chiako Yousefzadeh.
As the Kurdistan Independence Movement, we do not view this catastrophe as a natural or accidental event, but rather as part of a deliberate and organized policy by the Iranian regime to destroy the environment of Kurdistan and gradually annihilate the Kurdish people.
The outcry of the people of Sine during the funeral of martyr Hamid Moradi, with chants such as:
• “Iranian occupier, murderer of our children”
• “As long as Kurds are stateless, their share in life is massacre”
are not merely expressions of grief or protest. They are a national manifesto—an awakening on the path to liberation and independence.
The Kurdistan Independence Movement, while expressing our deepest condolences to the resilient people of Kurdistan and the families of the victims, reaffirms the following fundamental principles:
-
Kurdistan is our homeland; liberating it from occupation is our national and historic duty.
-
Our path is the path of independence—the foundation of a free and sovereign Kurdish state.
-
No nation can attain dignity, security, or freedom under an occupying regime.
-
The continuation of occupation means the continued destruction of our land, our people, and our future.
From our perspective, the relationship between Kurdistan and Iran is not a civic relationship, but one between an occupied nation and an occupying power. The path to liberation does not lie in the regime’s promises, reforms, or structural changes, but solely in the expulsion of the occupier and the establishment of an independent Kurdish state.
We call on international organizations, human rights institutions, environmental activists, and all freedom-loving nations of the world to support the right to self-determination of the Kurdish nation and to pave the way for the creation of a free and independent Kurdistan. This is the only true path to lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.
Long live the struggle of the Kurdish nation for freedom, dignity, and independence
