The Kurdistan Independence Movement, with profound sorrow and outrage, strongly condemns the deadly terrorist attack in Sydney, Australia, which—according to reports—took place during a Hanukkah gathering and deliberately targeted the Jewish community. This crime is a direct assault on humanity, freedom of religion, and public security.
While expressing solidarity with the wounded and the families of the victims, we extend our condolences to the Government and people of Israel, as well as to Jewish communities worldwide, over this tragedy. We also offer our condolences to the Government and people of Australia, and we stand with all citizens who have fallen victim to hatred and terrorism.
The Kurdistan Independence Movement stresses that this incident cannot be assessed in isolation from the bitter reality of “organized terrorism” in today’s world—terrorism that, in many cases, benefits from financial, logistical, propaganda, or networked support from states and security institutions. In this context, the Islamic Republic of Iran has, for decades, been widely recognized for exporting an ideology of hatred, supporting proxy networks, and turning violence into an instrument of foreign policy—contributing to regional and transnational instability.
Accordingly, we state clearly: the political and security finger of suspicion naturally and logically points toward Iran—a regime with a long record of fueling extremism, threatening targeted communities, and using “terror” as a tool of pressure. We believe that as long as this ruling structure in Tehran remains in place, the safety of innocent civilians—particularly religious and ethnic minorities—will continue to be under constant threat.
At the same time, we call on the Australian authorities and independent security and judicial bodies to conduct a transparent, swift, and evidence-based investigation, and to pursue any potential links—direct or indirect—to networks affiliated with the Islamic Republic without political consideration. If supportive or directing involvement is proven, the international community must take firm and coordinated action to hold state sponsors of terrorism accountable—through targeted sanctions, legal prosecution, and the disruption of their financial and operational pathways.
The Kurdistan Independence Movement reiterates: terrorism, antisemitism, and the targeting of civilians are unforgivable crimes, and no political, religious, or ideological justification can ever legitimize them.
