According to reports, on the evening of Wednesday, the 10th of Pushpar, 2726 in the Kurdish calendar, Siawesh Alek, the son of Seyed Omar, a 19-year-old from the city of Mahabad, was killed solely for wearing khaki-coloured clothing resembling that of the Peshmerga. He was reportedly killed by a regime-affiliated individual, a “Jash” named Nima Teymouri, the son of Jafar. Several other citizens were also wounded in the same incident.
According to the available information, “Nima Teymouri,” son of Jafar, “Komar Arya,” son of Loqman, and “Farhan Pazireh,” who are Jash affiliated with the “Mangur” tribe, became involved in a confrontation with a group of Kurdish youths from the Seyed families of Mahabad. They killed “Seyed Siawesh Alek,” son of Seyed Omar, with knife blows. In addition, “Zana Azadmanesh,” son of Seyed Sleman, “Mansour” and “Irfan,” sons of Seyed Sabir, and “Wahab Karimi,” son of Seyed Taher, were severely wounded.
This crime is not an ordinary incident; rather, it is the direct consequence of the conditions of repression, securitisation, the spread of hatred and hostility, and the impunity granted to the Jash and the regime’s mercenaries in Kurdistan. Relying on the support of the occupying Iranian forces, these elements target the life, security and dignity of the Kurdish nation.
Following this incident, the conscious and freedom-seeking people of Mahabad gathered in front of the city’s hospital and in the streets. With anger and protest against the killing of Siawesh Alek, and also against the disgraceful and brutal conduct of the Jash and the agents affiliated with the Iranian regime, they marched toward the regime’s governorate office in Mahabad.
At the same time, reports indicate that despite the militarisation and securitisation of the city by the regime’s repressive forces, part of Mahabad’s bazaar has gone on strike. A significant number of people also participated in the mourning, condolence and burial ceremonies for Siawesh, chanting protest slogans and expressing their outrage.
The killing of Siawesh Alek at the hands of the son of a Jash has once again shown that the human rights situation in East Kurdistan is at its worst. It is a situation in which the people of Kurdistan, merely because of their identity, clothing, culture, language and national symbols—symbols that the regime fears—are continuously subjected to pressure, threats and violence.
The Kurdistan Independence Party condemns and exposes every form of security pressure imposed on the family of Siawesh Alek, the summoning and threatening of his relatives, attempts to prevent public protests, and the militarisation of the city of Mahabad. Responsibility for this crime does not lie solely with the perpetrator; it also lies with the regime that has cultivated individuals of this kind and supports them in committing such crimes against the children of the Kurdish nation.
We call upon human rights institutions and organisations, free media, and global public opinion to seriously follow the current situation in Mahabad and throughout all of Kurdistan occupied by Iran, and not to allow crimes against the Kurdish nation to remain hidden in media silence and under the shadow of security repression.
The Kurdistan Independence Party expresses its profound sorrow, anger and concern over the killing of this 19-year-old Kurdish youth from the city of Mahabad. It extends its condolences to the Alek family, to all his relatives and loved ones, and to the people of Kurdistan as a whole. While condemning this crime, the Party considers itself a participant in this grief and sorrow, and at the same time calls on the people of Kurdistan not to remain silent in the face of the systematic aggression, threats and violence carried out by the agents of the Iranian regime, but to stand united, with one voice, and to support and defend one another.
