In the early hours of today, Friday, 26 Pushper 2726 in the Kurdish calendar, corresponding to 17 July 2026, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in continuation of its policy of terrorism, repression and spreading instability throughout the region, targeted the bases and camps of the Komala of the Revolutionary Toilers of Iranian Kurdistan in Zargwezala, in the Region of South Kurdistan, with a heavy missile attack. According to published reports, nine Peshmerga were martyred and a number of others were wounded in the attack.
The Kurdistan Independence Party condemns in the strongest possible terms this criminal and cowardly attack by Iran and regards it as a continuation of the same policy that the Islamic Republic of Iran has pursued against the Kurdish nation since the earliest days of its establishment; a policy founded upon executions, terrorism, missile bombardments, forced displacement, political repression and the systematic denial of the national rights of the Kurdish nation.
Attacks on the bases and headquarters of the Kurdish parties of East Kurdistan, which are based in South Kurdistan, have no defensive or security justification. The missile bombardment of the territory of the Kurdistan Region constitutes a blatant assault on the security of the Kurdistan Region and a violation of the territorial sovereignty of another country.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has once again demonstrated that, in order to escape its internal crises and the consequences of its destructive policies, it exports war and instability beyond the borders under its control.
What frightens the Islamic Republic in Kurdistan is not buildings or camps, but the national consciousness, political will and organisational capacity of a nation that has resisted occupation, discrimination and the denial of its identity for more than a century.
The authorities in Tehran know very well that Kurdistan has always been one of the principal strongholds of the struggle for freedom and one of the centres from which uprisings against Iran have emerged. Kurdistan’s leading role in the “Woman, Life, Freedom” revolution also demonstrated that missiles, prisons and executions cannot silence the voice of a nation that has risen to its feet and raised its voice for freedom and the right to determine its own destiny.
A regime that faces widespread public anger and discontent at home and is confronting the consequences of its warmongering policies abroad is attempting, by attacking the Kurdistani parties, both to take revenge for the popular uprisings and to intimidate the society of Kurdistan. However, historical experience has proven that every crime committed by the Islamic Republic not only fails to break the will of the Kurdish nation, but also strengthens the necessity of national solidarity, political organisation and the continuation of the struggle for liberation.
The Kurdistan Independence Party offers its condolences over the martyrdom of these nine Peshmerga:

to their proud families, the leadership and members of Komala, their fellow fighters and all the people of Kurdistan, and wishes a swift recovery to those wounded in this attack. The names and memories of those who sacrificed their lives will forever remain alive in the memory of the Kurdish nation’s struggle for liberation.
We call upon the Kurdistan Regional Government and the international community not to remain silent in the face of the repetition of these acts of aggression and to take urgent and effective measures to provide practical protection for the lives of camp residents, members of the Kurdistani parties and their families. We also call upon the United Nations, the European Union, democratic states and international institutions to formally condemn the Iranian regime’s missile and drone attacks on the territory of the Kurdistan Region, to conduct an independent investigation into the various dimensions of this attack, and to place its commanders and perpetrators under pressure and hold them accountable.
The silence of the international community in the face of these acts of aggression encourages the Islamic Republic and Iran’s terrorist Revolutionary Guard Corps to continue engaging in state terrorism and violating international law.
Verbal condemnation alone is not sufficient; urgent, coordinated political, legal and security measures are necessary to stop the Islamic Republic’s machinery of terrorism, missiles and repression.
The Kurdistan Independence Party once again emphasises that no force can suppress the Kurdish nation’s right to freedom, national sovereignty and self-determination. The response of the people of Kurdistan to missile bombardment and terrorism will be the strengthening of national solidarity, the continuation of organised struggle and even firmer commitment to the goal of an independent Kurdistan.
